Climate change is undoubtedly one of the most pressing challenges of our time, and its impact on our planet is becoming increasingly evident. In response to this urgent issue, Star Hands Organisation took the initiative to organize a one-day workshop aimed at equipping young minds with the essentials of understanding and tackling climate change. On 30th September 2023, we gathered 25 passionate individuals who are eager to make a positive impact on the environment and awarded them certificates signifying their commitment to becoming eco-warriors and change-makers of tomorrow.
To ensure that our workshop covered a wide range of perspectives and topics related to climate change, we invited three inspiring speakers who shared their knowledge and experiences with our participants.
Hans Tenywa Samuel – Harnessing the Power of Social Media in Climate Activism
Hans Tenywa Samuel, a prominent climate activist and the founder of Schools Eco-Network Uganda (SENU), kicked off the workshop with a dive into the power of social media in climate activism. He shared success stories of how digital platforms can amplify environmental campaigns and engage a global audience. Hans emphasized that young activists can use social media to mobilize support, raise awareness, and drive change in their communities.
Raymond James Ntabazi – Sustainable Practices for Environmental Protection
Raymond, an Environmental Engineering student from Kyambogo University, gave a captivating discussion on sustainable practices for protecting our environment. He highlighted the importance of responsible consumption, waste reduction, and the role of technology in minimizing our ecological footprint. Raymond’s insights shed light on how small lifestyle changes can have a big impact on our planet. And he encouraged the attendees to make use of waste to derive something valuable from it. He said “To me there is nothing like waste”

Solomon O’Jay, another passionate climate activist and dedicated tree planter, rounded off the day’s discussions. His presentation centered on actionable steps individuals can take to combat climate change, with a special focus on tree planting and reforestation efforts. Solomon expressed his unwavering commitment to turning his dream of planting forests across Uganda into a reality, inspiring our participants to take tangible steps towards a greener future.
We also had the opportunity to hear from Fredvich Mukasa Vichanto who embarked on his journey of climate activism one month ago, and he shared insights on what he has already achieved within a short period of time, he expressed his commitment to protecting the environment, encouraged and inspired the young people to join him on the journey as he seeks for collaborative efforts.
The workshop was expertly hosted by Moses Ssekyanzi, a prominent Youth Climate Activist and the founder of Star Hands Organisation. Moses’s dedication to environmental causes and his commitment to inspiring and educating the youth made him the perfect host for this event. His enthusiasm and passion served as a driving force throughout the workshop, encouraging participants to engage actively in the discussions and activities.

At the end of the workshop, each of the 25 young participants received certificates of achievement to honor their commitment to becoming eco-warriors and change-makers of tomorrow. These certificates serve as a reminder of their dedication to making a positive impact on our environment and their role in the fight against climate change.

With the valuable insights shared by our speakers and the inspiration drawn from their passion and dedication, these individuals are now equipped with the knowledge and motivation to take meaningful actions in the fight against climate change.
